UPDATE: Tactical Teams Safely Resolve Disturbance Call in Hazelwood Neighborhood

This incident is now resolved and SERT and CNT are clearing the scene. One subject was safely taken into custody. On Tuesday, August 25^, 2026, at 22:13 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a report of a disturbance inside a residence in the 9900 block of Southeast Caruthers Street. They learned that a machete may be involved. Officers surrounded the area and made significant efforts to contact the occupants of the residence; one person was able to evacuate.

The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were activated to bring in additional personnel, expertise, training, and equipment.

The area is closed, including Southeast Caruthers Street from Southeast 99^th Avenue to Southeast 101^st Avenue. Additional updates will be released via this channel.
