UPDATE: Tactical Teams Safely Resolve Disturbance Call in Hazelwood Neighborhood

UPDATE:

This incident is now resolved and SERT and CNT are clearing the scene. One subject was safely taken into custody. There is no ongoing risk to the public and anyone with information on this incident who has not yet spoken to investigators is asked to email [email protected] and reference case number 26-249202.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 22:13 p.m., Portland Police Officers assigned to East Precinct responded to a report of a disturbance inside a residence in the 9900 block of Southeast Caruthers Street. They learned that a machete may be involved. Officers surrounded the area and made significant efforts to contact the occupants of the residence; one person was able to evacuate.

The Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) were activated to bring in additional personnel, expertise, training, and equipment.

The area is closed, including Southeast Caruthers Street from Southeast 99th Avenue to Southeast 101st Avenue. Additional updates will be released via this channel.
