Dunwoody, GA - August 13, 2025 - For the fourth time, the City of Dunwoody is partnering with Trees Atlanta to plant up to 80 shade trees in front yards across Dunwoody. Property owners interested in being part of the program can submit an online application using this link: https://www.dunwoodyga.gov/frontyardtree. Trees will be allotted on a first-come, first-served basis.
"The Front Yard Tree Program is a simple yet powerful way for residents to make a lasting difference in Dunwoody's landscape," said Dunwoody Community Development Director Richard McLeod. "City Council has seen the value in a program that strengthens our canopy, cools our neighborhoods, and contributes to a healthier environment for future generations."
Trees Atlanta, a nonprofit organization committed to the care and replenishment of metro Atlanta's urban forest, manages the processing of tree requests and coordinates with each homeowner to select, place, and install up to two front yard trees per yard through this program. A total of 189 front yard trees have been planted through this program in Dunwoody, beginning with the 2022-23 planting season.
"We are grateful for the strong and ongoing interest from Dunwoody residents for the Front Yard Tree program," said Mike Vinciquerra, Business Development Director for Trees Atlanta. "Because the program focuses on native overstory trees, it has the dual benefit of beautifying individual yards while also cooling nearby sidewalks, capturing stormwater and cleaning the air. We look forward to another year of planting in Dunwoody!"
There is no cost to property owners. The new trees must be planted on private property within 35 feet of right-of-way. After planting, property owners are responsible for watering and maintaining the new trees.
