Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announces that Anderson Tate, Sr., 77, of Buffalo, was arraigned yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges on an indictment charging him with one count of Murder in the Second Degree (Class A-I felony).
It is alleged that on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at approximately 11:50 p.m., Buffalo Police officers responded to a home on the 200 block of Cedar Avenue after receiving a 911 call. The victim, 70-year-old Patricia Tate, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Erie County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the manner of death as homicide caused by blunt force trauma to the head. The defendant is accused of intentionally causing the death of his wife inside of their home.
On Thursday, April 23, 2026, the defendant was located in the area of Kensington Avenue and Grider Street in the City of Buffalo where he was taken into custody on the sealed indictment warrant.
Tate is scheduled to return on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. for a pre-trial conference. He was held without bail.
If convicted of the charge, Tate faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
DA Keane commends Detective William Rezabek, Officer Zachary Wyzykowski, Officer Ronnie Parrett, Officer Dennell Swain, Officer Charles Jones and Officer Nathaniel Rodriguez of the Buffalo Police Department and the US Marshals Service for their work in this investigation.
The case is being prosecuted by Chief Danielle N. D'Abate and Assistant District Attorney Carolina A. Lew of the Felony Trials Bureau with the assistance of Assistant District Attorney Christopher S. Safulko of the Homicide Bureau.
As are all persons accused of a crime, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
