Honoring National First Responders Day on October 28th, 2025

Published on October 28, 2025

Every year on October 28th, we honor the brave individuals who risk their lives daily to keep our communities safe. National First Responders Day recognizes the dedication and sacrifice of firefighters, police officers, deputies, EMTs, paramedics, other emergency personnel and public works professionals who serve on the front lines during emergencies and disasters.

First responders are often the first to arrive at the scene of accidents, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and public safety threats. Dedicated public safety professionals work tirelessly, day and night, to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of our residents, responding with courage, skill, and compassion in moments of greatest need. Public Works professionals play a critical yet often unseen role in emergency response and recovery, ensuring safe roads, clean water, functioning infrastructure, and rapid restoration of essential services during storms, floods, accidents, and other crises.

The coordinated efforts of all first responders, working side by side, demonstrate courage, professionalism, and commitment to public service in the face of danger and uncertainty.

October 28th is an opportunity for Wyandotte County/ KCK residents to express gratitude, support, and respect. Whether through thank-you notes, or simple acts of kindness, taking a moment to acknowledge their service can mean a great deal.

As we reflect on their commitment, let October 28th serve as a reminder to honor and appreciate the everyday heroes who put others first, often without recognition. National First Responders Day is not just about remembrance, but about ongoing support and respect for those who protect and serve.
