Paulina Street resurfacing begins May 12

CHICAGO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that milling and resurfacing of Paulina Street between 127th and Vermont streets, in Calumet Park, will begin, weather permitting, Tuesday, May 12.

To complete the work, intermittent daytime lane closures will be required. The southbound Paulina Street ramp to southbound Interstate 57 also will close for approximately one month. A detour will direct traffic to 127th Street (east) to Marshfield Avenue (north) to northbound I-57, exit at 119th Street (west), to Marshfield Avenue (south) to access southbound I-57.

The project, which also includes constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, is expected to be completed in September. Access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction.

The public can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Alternate routes are encouraged. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
