University of Hartford Launches Accelerated 3+1 Education Program

The program is designed for students who want to fast-track their education while gaining the advanced credentials, knowledge, and flexibility needed to build a career in today's schools.

"At UHart, we want to give students the opportunity to turn their passion for education into a career as efficiently and intentionally as possible. The 3+1 program allows future educators to earn two degrees in four years while gaining the knowledge, skills, and flexibility they need to succeed in today's classrooms," said Kristin Landis-Piwowar, dean of UHart's College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions.

Students in the 3+1 program will complete their bachelor's degree in three years and then move directly into the one-year MEd program, earning two degrees in the time they would traditionally earn one. The MEd in Education is offered asynchronously online, enabling students to complete their graduate coursework from wherever they are.

"Little ones, growing learners, and inclusive classrooms all deserve exceptional teachers. The 3+1 pathway supports future educators in Early Childhood, Elementary, and Integrated Elementary/Special Education with strong academics, hands-on clinical experiences, and dedicated mentoring, so you finish in four years prepared to teach with confidence, care, and culturally responsive practice," said Christina Swaidan, chair of ENHP's department of education.

Students enrolled in UHart's accelerated education programs are also eligible for the Hawk Alumni Scholarship, which provides a 25% tuition discount during the final year of the program. Students receiving the scholarship are not eligible for institutional merit aid during that final year.

The 3+1 program joins UHart's existing 4+1 accelerated option, giving students multiple pathways to earn a bachelor's degree and MEd while preparing for careers in education.
