Kathryn Vomero Santos Discusses Borderlands Shakespeare in Texas Public Radio Interview

Kathryn Vomero Santos, Ph.D. , Trinity University associate professor of English, discussed her book, Shakespeare in Tongues, in an interview with Texas Public Radio's Fronteras. Vomero Santos's book explores how Shakespeare's works are adapted in the U.S./Mexico borderlands. She explains that these reinterpretations challenge the idea of Shakespeare as "universal," instead using multilingual and culturally specific performances to highlight histories of colonialism, migration, and linguistic diversity.

Vomero Santos also emphasizes that these adaptations, often tied to her work with the Borderlands Shakespeare Colectiva, connect classic literature to contemporary social issues, amplifying marginalized voices and making Shakespeare more relevant to diverse communities.
