TOKYO, Japan - September 10, 2025 - Tokuyama Corporation, a Japanese specialty and basic chemical manufacturer, and Cognite, the global leader in industrial AI, are pleased to announce that Tokuyama has adopted Cognite Data Fusion®, the leading industrial data foundation that makes data AI-ready, to accelerate digital transformation (DX) at the manufacturing sites. Through this collaboration, Tokuyama will increase the efficiency and sophistication of its equipment maintenance and operational management tasks.

Tokuyama is manufacturing wide variety of products, such as chemicals, cement, and electronic materials and Tokuyama's decision to implement Cognite is a direct response to the complex challenges associated with modernizing its operations, including the need to ensure safety, maintain stable production, improve productivity, and facilitate the transfer of technical knowledge. The company's existing data infrastructure, characterized by disparate and siloed systems for operational data, equipment records, and maintenance information, necessitated a robust solution capable of integrating these diverse datasets.

Following a comprehensive evaluation, Tokuyama selected Cognite based on three key criteria:

  • Breaking down data silos: The ability to integrate and contextualize all types of data - such as equipment diagrams, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), sensor data, and inspection records - that are currently scattered across different departments. This creates an environment where operators and engineers can easily access and utilize data.
  • High compatibility with existing systems: The platform's flexible connectivity with existing systems ensures a smooth implementation and operation.
  • AI Agent Utilization: The utilization of AI agents with Cognite Atlas AI ™ the only low-code industrial AI agent workbench to power agents with real-time, AI-ready operational technology (OT), information technology (IT), and engineering data. This contributes to the advancement of maintenance and operations by reducing the workload of data exploration, enabling the swift execution of analysis.

Moving forward, Tokuyama will advance the digitalization and automation of specific on-site operations, including visualizing equipment status, enhancing anomaly detection, and improving the efficiency of inspection tasks. The company aims to complete the implementation of Cognite across all nine manufacturing departments at the Tokuyama Factory by March 2026.
