Delegation from the European Parliament’s Committee on Development visits EUMAM MOZ

Maputo, Mozambique - The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) received today a visit from a delegation of the European Parliament's Committee on Development (DEVE) at the Mission Headquarters.

The EUMAM MOZ Mission Force Commander, Commodore César Pires Correia, welcomed the delegation composed of Members of the European Parliament and led by the Chair of the Delegation to the Africa-EU Parliamentary Assembly, Hilde Vautmans, together with Members of the European Parliament Marit Maij and György Hölvényi, accompanied by Ambassador Antonino Maggiore, Head of Mission of the European Union Delegation to Mozambique.

During the visit to EUMAM MOZ, the members of the delegation had the opportunity to learn about the work carried out by the Mission in strengthening the capabilities of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM). The results achieved since the start of the Mission were also presented, as well as its contribution to strengthening security and stability in the country.

The visit also provided an opportunity to address the security challenges that persist in Cabo Delgado and the importance of an integrated approach combining security, development and humanitarian assistance. In this context, the delegation was briefed on how EUMAM MOZ contributes to creating favorable conditions for the protection of populations and the sustainable development of communities affected by instability in the region.

The visit to EUMAM MOZ highlighted the European Union's commitment to supporting Mozambique through a comprehensive approach that promotes peace, stability and operational effectiveness.

EUMAM MOZ is a non-executive Mission, with a mandate until December 2026 and focusses on the operational training cycle and maintenance, while also conducting specialised training to enable the FADM to be self-sufficient in fighting the insurgency.
