The Expert Group was created following discussions at the 44th meeting of the interdepartmental working group on climate change and sustainable development. Its first session brought together representatives from federal executive bodies, scientific organisations, and the business community.
The meeting discussed the relation between the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity and bioeconomy, in particular, issues of regulating access to biological resources and ensuring fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from biodiversity, both internationally and domestically. The experts identified specific areas where a coordinated national position and improvements to the regulatory framework are required.
The meeting concluded with an examination of current international cooperation in the area of bioeconomy and opportunities for its advancement, particularly within the BRICS and G20 frameworks.
