TRENTON, NJ - New Jersey is racing to America's 250th in 2026. RevolutionNJ, the state's official partnership between the New Jersey Historical Commission and the nonprofit Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area to commemorate the Semiquincentennial, is hosting a series of 5K races and one-mile family fun walks at historic sites across New Jersey.
The 2025 RevolutionNJ Race Series kicked off on June 7th when attendees commemorated the Haddonfield Skirmish by traversing Croft Farm and Pennypacker Park. On August 9th, participants gathered at Monmouth Battlefield State Park to retrace the site's famous encounter between the Continental and British forces. At the third race on September 7th, racers were joined by Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy at Princeton Battlefield State Park.
The fourth race in the 2025 RevolutionNJ Race Series will occur on October 12th at the Ramapo Valley County Reservation. Racers and walkers alike will traverse a section of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail commemorating the path that General Washington and General Rochambeau's troops marched on their way from Massachusetts to the final battle of the Revolutionary War in Yorktown, Virginia. All participants will receive a t-shirt, and runners will receive a finisher's medal. Awards will be given to the top three fastest runners in each ten-year age category.
"The RevolutionNJ Race Series showcases how New Jersey's historic parks are not simply rooted in the past, but are vibrant and engaging spaces in our present," said Lieutenant Governor Tahesha Way who oversees the New Jersey Historical Commission in her role as New Jersey's Secretary of State.
"This second year of the RevolutionNJ Race Series has been a wonderful opportunity for communities to connect and explore their local history," said Sara Cureton, executive director of the New Jersey Historical Commission. "Whether you are an avid historian, a recreational runner, or a family looking for new ways to get outside on the weekend, there's a space for everyone at these 5K events."
"We are excited to bring the RevolutionNJ Race Series to this section of the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail," said Carrie Fellows, executive director of Crossroads of the American Revolution National Heritage Area. "Participants will be able to retrace the same steps Revolutionary soldiers took as they marched from Massachusetts to the Battle of Yorktown in Virginia, securing the surrender of the British army. Our thanks to Bergen County and Bergen250 for their support of this wonderful event."
Participation in the race is $20 for those registering for the one-mile fun walk and $35 for those registering for the 5K race. For more information, visit: https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/Mahwah/WR5K.
