Senate Judiciary Committee Plans Series of Arctic Frost Hearings for 2026

WASHINGTON - Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is placing Arctic Frost at the top of the committee's oversight agenda in 2026. Under Grassley's leadership, the committee plans to hold a series of hearings examining the constitutional and legal implications of the weaponized election case against President Donald Trump, which began at the Biden Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and was expanded by Jack Smith to target hundreds of Republicans, including members of Congress. Grassley is conducting oversight of Arctic Frost in partnership with Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations Chairman Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) and this year has released thousands of pages of records exposing Arctic Frost's political origins.

"Thanks to whistleblowers who sounded the alarm to me about Arctic Frost's existence, this shocking political scandal is seeing the light of day," Grassley said. "Arctic Frost was a runaway train that swept up information from hundreds of innocent people simply because of their political affiliation. Congress and the American people want answers, and sunshine is the best disinfectant. The Senate Judiciary Committee is leading this investigation to find out exactly what went wrong, so that bad actors can be held accountable and this sort of political witch hunt never happens again. Transparency brings accountability."

Subcommittees plan to examine a range of issues related to Arctic Frost, including:

  • Telecommunication agencies' responses to Smith's subpoena requests for congressional phone records.

  • The separation of powers and civil rights issues posed by Smith's subpoenas.

  • Judges' decision-making and compliance with judicial duties when signing off on Nondisclosure Orders for Smith's subpoenas.

  • The implications of the Biden Justice Department's allocation of significant government resources to prioritize a political case.

Hearings are expected in the following subcommittees:

  • Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology and the Law, chaired by Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.)

  • Subcommittee on the Constitution, chaired by Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.)

  • Subcommittee on Federal Courts, Oversight, Agency Action and Federal Rights, chaired by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas)

  • Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, chaired by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.)
