University Libraries receives gift from the estate of renowned architect Antoine Predock

The University of New Mexico Libraries is honored to announce the receipt of a remarkable gift from the estate of Antoine Predock, the internationally celebrated architect and UNM alumnus who died last year. Valued at over $7 million, this donation represents a significant archival contribution in the University's history and marks a profound moment of remembrance and legacy.

Antoine Predock

Predock, whose visionary work helped shape contemporary architecture across the globe, is widely recognized for integrating landscape, culture, and a sense of place into his designs. With a career spanning decades, he is best known for iconic structures such as the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg, Manitoba; Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum in Taibao City, Taiwan; and UNM's own School of Architecture and Planning building.

The generous bequest to University Libraries includes an extensive body of digital and physical content that chronicles Predock's creative process and expansive portfolio. Among the materials are original architectural drawings, project plans, hand-crafted collages, artwork, and photography, many of which have never been publicly exhibited. Particularly noteworthy is the inclusion of Predock's digital archive, which comprises a substantial portion of his design work since the transition to computer-aided design (CAD), offering a comprehensive lens into the evolution of his practice.

"This extraordinary gift from Antoine Predock's estate enriches our university in ways that transcend monetary value. His archives offer unparalleled insights into the mind of one of the world's most visionary architects. By preserving and sharing his remarkable legacy, the UNM Libraries will not only celebrate Predock's profound contributions but also inspire generations of architects, scholars, and dreamers to come," said Leo Lo, dean of the College of University Libraries and Learning Sciences.

University Libraries will preserve, catalog, and make accessible these materials for research and education, continuing Predock's passion for learning, exploration, and design innovation. This gift stands as a testament to Predock's enduring connection to the university.
