Van Epps says that there is "no policy" of Donald Trump's that he disagrees with
Today, after the Matt Van Epps campaign admitted they are concerned about their prospects following Democrats' historic Blue Wave last Tuesday, when Democrats won and overperformed up and down the ballot, Donald Trump announced he would hold a tele-rally in Tennessee this evening in this Trump +22 district.
Republicans are worried about this race because voters are angry about Trump's toxic agenda, including his Big Ugly Bill and ACA premium price hikes that have created a health care crisis in Tennessee and across the country and raised costs for working families. In addition to Trump's last-minute rally, the RNC announced today that they are pouring six figures into this race, which would normally not be competitive.
FACT: Van Epps said, "I would have voted for and supported the One Big, Beautiful Bill." He also said, "We are moving in a great direction."
FACT: Trump's Big Ugly Bill kicks 210,000 Tennesseans off their health insurance.
FACT: Trump's Big Ugly Bill also puts nine rural hospitals on the brink of closure.
FACT: Unlike her opponent, Democratic candidate Aftyn Behn is running a campaign that is laser-focused on protecting health care, reversing Trump's cuts to Medicaid, and lowering costs for Tennessee families, including eliminating the state's grocery tax.
In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Abhi Rahman released the following statement:
"Republicans are panicking - and they should be. Donald Trump and Matt Van Epps are concerned that voters are about to hold them accountable on Election Day for their toxic agenda that kicks over 200,000 Tennesseans off their health insurance and raises costs for families. Van Epps is Trump's hand-picked candidate in an overwhelmingly Republican district, and he's still in the fight of his life. Tennessee families deserve a champion like Aftyn Behn, who will lower their health care and grocery costs, vote to release the Epstein files, and stand up to Trump and his acolytes like Van Epps. The DNC will continue fighting like hell to support Rep. Behn's campaign and ensure Tennesseans have a leader who will fight for them, and not someone like Van Epps who will only fight for Trump."
