The Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) Board is proud to present our IANA 2030 Strategy, which sets out objectives for the next five years. Since May 2024, the PTI Board has worked closely with Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) staff, the broader ICANN organization, and members of the community to develop this strategic plan. The IANA 2030 Strategy provides an in-depth look at what PTI will focus on to successfully deliver on its mission to provide secure and accountable management of the Internet's unique identifier systems.
The PTI Bylaws require the organization to have a dedicated strategic plan. We have seized upon this mandate as an opportunity to explore IANA's objectives in a greater level of detail than provided in ICANN's strategic plan. However, the goals and initiatives outlined in the IANA 2030 Strategy are still aligned with and support those in the ICANN Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years (FY) 2026-2030. Additionally, the PTI Board adopted the PTI FY26 Operating Plan and Budget, which explains how IANA will operationalize the strategic plan in the fiscal year that begins on 1 July 2025. We have submitted this plan to the ICANN Board to be considered as a component of the IANA FY26 Operating Plan and Budget.
The IANA 2030 Strategy lays out three focus areas: innovation, operational excellence, and community engagement. PTI's three strategic objectives are to:
We have complemented this plan with an evolved vision statement for PTI that provides clarity of purpose. The vision statement is: "To foster an Internet that works seamlessly everywhere through the reliable coordination of unique identifiers, that adapts and innovates to meet evolving community needs."
A stable and secure Internet relies on the effective delivery of the IANA functions, which PTI is tasked by ICANN to perform. This vision is aligned with, and contributes to, the broader vision of ICANN. The new PTI Strategic Plan will serve as a useful tool in fulfilling this vision for years to come.
