Board Discussing E-Bike Regulations

At their May 27 meeting, the Village Board received a presentation from Roselle Police Chief Rob Barreto regarding E-bikes. Residents can view the presentation by watching the May 27 meeting or reviewing the presentation slides (available on our E-bike page).

The Board continued their discussion on Village E-bike regulations at their June 9, 2025 meeting; a copy of the draft ordinance and presentation slides are included with the meeting agenda. The June 9 meeting recording is available on YouTube.

The Board must formally vote on any new or modified ordinances before the Roselle Police Department can enforce new or revised regulations. The Village Board meets the second and fourth Monday of the month at Village Hall at 7:00p.m. These meetings are open to the public. Anyone wishing to provide comment on a topic or an agenda item may address the Village Board in person during the "Public Comment" and "Public Hearing" segments of the Village Board agenda. Agendas are available online in the Agenda Center. You can also sign up to receive notifications when a new Village Board meeting agenda is posted.

E-bike regulations discussed include:

  • Must be at least 16 years old to operate a Class 1, 2, or 3 E-bike using motor assistance. Riders under age 16 may operate a Class 1 or 2 E-bike using manual pedal power only.
  • All E-bike classes prohibited from bicycle paths and multi-use paths unless rider operates using manual pedal power only, no motor assistance.
  • Adopt state law for low-speed electric scooters: must be 18 years of age to operate, prohibited from operating on highway with a posted speed limit in excess of 35 mph
