SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) today released the second draft of the Illinois Comprehensive Numeracy Plan, a statewide initiative to strengthen math learning for all students. ISBE is asking the public to submit feedback on the plan through the public comment form and a statewide listening tour that includes one virtual and six in-person sessions.
"Strong numeracy skills open doors for students in school, in the workforce, and in their daily lives," said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Tony Sanders. "This draft plan focuses on giving educators the support and resources they need to deliver high-quality instruction and respond to the needs of every learner. I am grateful to the educators, families, and partners across the state whose feedback continues to shape and strengthen this work."
The second draft of the plan was informed by feedback received through the initial round of listening sessions and public comment. The plan is designed to support districts in strengthening math instruction locally, while maintaining flexibility for school leaders to make decisions that best meet the needs of their students and communities. ISBE will host focus groups to gather more detailed input from educators and community partners to further refine the plan.
ISBE will also host a second round of listening tour sessions designed to gather direct public input on the revised draft. Participants are encouraged to review the second draft in advance and attend prepared to share feedback. Registration is required. All sessions begin at 4 p.m.
Listening Tour Schedule
The final plan is anticipated to be presented to the ISBE Board for consideration in June 2026.
