Columbia Fire Department responds to residential structure fire, Feb. 28

(COLUMBIA, MO)-

On Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2:57 p.m., Columbia Fire Department (CFD) units were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 700 block of Cook Ave.

CFD arrived within four minutes to find heavy smoke and flames showing from a shed and a single-story home. Firefighters immediately entered the structure to look for residents while simultaneously stretching hose lines to control flames on both the exterior and interior of the home. Due to fire extension into the attic, crews climbed to the top of the structure and vertically ventilated by removing a portion of the roof. The fire was under control in approximately 10 minutes.

The only occupant who was home at the time of the fire had evacuated the structure prior to CFD arrival and there were no reported injuries.

A total of five fire companies with 20 personnel responded to the scene.

The Columbia Fire Marshals are conducting an investigation into the origin and cause of the fire.
