The Commission's position on Huawei
Question for written answer E-001490/2026
to the Commission
Rule 144
Maciej Wąsik (ECR)
During the meeting of Parliament's LIBE Committee on 23 February 2026, the Commission presented a position pointing out that the first time it had identified Huawei in an official communication as being a high-risk provider in terms of the security of 5G and mobile networks was back in 2020. There was also specific confirmation of this in a Commission document dated 15 June 2023, which stated that 'the Commission takes the view that Huawei and ZTE do indeed pose a significantly higher risk than other 5G suppliers'. Many MEPs took a similar stance during the debate in the LIBE Committee[1].
In the light of the foregoing:
-
1.Does the Commission still maintain its position that Huawei is a high-risk supplier that poses a threat to the security of data processed within the EU?
-
2.Was the Commission representative's statement of 23 February 2026 - expressing the view that Huawei is a high-risk supplier - the official position of the Commission?
-
3.Do the investigations into Huawei that the Member States are currently conducting confirm that Huawei poses a high risk to digital security in the European Union?[2]
