Jump(er) on a bike and ride the new Victoria Street cycleway

A newly joined-up, continuous cycleway is now open on Victoria Street, linking Nelson Street and the Lightpath / Te Ara i Whiti routes in the west with Queen Street's Te Waihorotiu cycleway in the east. It's the latest piece of the city centre cycle loop, making it easier to travel by bike into and through midtown.

The two-way cycleway is physically separated from traffic, offering a protected route that's safer and more accessible for riders of all levels.

This new link runs along the western edge of Te Hā Noa - Victoria Street, Auckland's emerging green link. With native planting, mature trees, wide footpaths, seating and now a dedicated bike lane, it's a big step in making the city centre greener, more inviting, and better connected.

Celebrate in style - and Jump(er) on a bike

To mark the milestone, we're throwing a winter bike parade with serious style, part fashion show, part street party, and all about enjoying your city on two wheels.

Hosted by the New Zealand Fashion Museum, Bike Auckland, and Auckland Council, Jump(er) on a Bike invites you to pull on your boldest, warmest, most fabulous knitwear and cycle into town via the new Victoria Street route. The event will include a judged bike parade, prizes, music, market stalls, food, and a chance to enjoy the best of midtown on a Thursday night.

All ages welcome. No preregistration required, just show up, jumper on.

Not on wheels? No problem. Come enjoy the street party, music and markets on foot.

More details on this event can be found on OurAuckland.

What the new connection means for the city

The Victoria Street cycleway fills a critical gap in Auckland's cycling network and supports the wider city centre vision of a thriving, people-friendly city centre where walking, cycling, and public transport are easy, everyday options.

The project is funded by the city centre targeted rate (CCTR), a special rate paid by city centre commercial and residential property owners to fund initiatives to enhance and revitalise Auckland's city centre.
