SCO Secretary-General Holds a Meeting the President of Laos in Bishkek
On August 31, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, on the eve of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit, a meeting took place between SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev and President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith.
The parties discussed the prospects for developing cooperation between the SCO and Laos.
The President expressed gratitude to the SCO member states for their support of Laos in the process of obtaining the status of the Organisation's Dialogue Partner. Among the promising areas he noted economy and trade, transport and digital connectivity, personnel training, tourism, as well as countering contemporary challenges and threats.
In the sphere of security, the discussion covered issues of countering cybercrime, transnational organised crime, drug trafficking and terrorism.
During the conversation,the parties touched upon matters of intensifying interaction between the SCO and ASEAN.
