Free mango nectar samples, plant clinics and a mango recipe showdown are coming to Pearl City. The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa's College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resilience (CTAHR) is hosting "Mango Madness" on Saturday, June 13, 9-11:30 a.m. at the Waiawa Urban Garden Center (behind the Public Storage building).
The free community event offers local families everything they need to level up their backyard gardens and protect their crops.
In addition, the Oʻahu Invasive Species Committee and the Hawaiʻi Ant Lab will offer practical guidance on identifying and controlling the Little Fire Ant and other destructive pests. Attendees can also buy seeds at the CTAHR Seed Sales booth and get diagnoses for their specific botanical issues at the popular "Got a Plant Question?" consultation table.
For those interested in learning to create their own worm bins, a workshop will guide people through setting up and managing their first home vermicomposting system. The worming course has a $95 registration fee. Interested people can find more information and sign up online.
Mango Madness! is presented by the UH Master Gardener Program and the Hawaiʻi 4-H Youth Development organization; both are CTAHR programs.
