At the instruction of President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the Ministry of the Navy reported a new shipment of humanitarian aid to Cuba, transported by the Mexican Navy.
On Tuesday, the logistics support vessels Papaloapan and Huasteco departed from the Port of Veracruz carrying a total of 1,193 tons of food supplies for the Cuban people.
The ARM Papaloapan is transporting 1,078 tons of essential food items, including beans and powdered milk. The ARM Huasteco is carrying 92 tons of beans and an additional 23 tons of assorted food products.
The 23 tons of assorted aid were donated by civil society organizations, with support from the Mexico City government, and collected at a temporary donation center in the city's historic center. This shipment is the first delivery of those donations.
The people of Mexico continue to uphold their longstanding tradition of solidarity with the peoples of Latin America, particularly with the people of Cuba. Mexico has consistently provided assistance to sister nations in times of need. In recent months, we have sent aid to nations affected by wildfires in California and Chile; flooding in Texas; and other isnatural disasters across the continent.
This maritime transport operation is expected to take four days, including loading and unloading. More than 350 naval personnel are participating in the effort, supported by one crane and five forklifts.
