City Seeks Artists for Public Art at Affordable Senior Housing

City Seeks Artists for Public Art at Affordable Senior Housing

Published on April 08, 2026

The City of Miami, through its Art in Public Places (AIPP) Program, announces a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for permanent public art commissions at Flagler Villas, a new affordable housing development for seniors located at 5215 West Flagler Street in District 4.

Flagler Villas is a six-story building with 60 one-bedroom units designed around shared amenity spaces that support wellness and community connection for older adults. The development represents a meaningful investment in the quality of life for Miami's senior residents, creating a welcoming environment that honors their daily lives and cultural roots.

AIPP is seeking professional artists and artist teams to create site-responsive artworks integrated into two distinct locations within the building: an exterior art wall on the south elevation and interior artwork intended to enhance common areas. Proposed works should reflect the cultural identity and history of the surrounding community while contributing to a welcoming environment that is sensitive to the daily lives of senior residents.

The total public art budget is $100,000, inclusive of design, fabrication, and installation. This opportunity is open to artists and artist teams aged 18 and older. Regional and local artists are highly encouraged to apply. Prior public art experience is preferred but not required, and artists may apply for one or multiple opportunities. Shortlisted artists will receive honorariums for proposal development.

Applications will be accepted exclusively through the CODAworx platform. The call opens on April 8, 2026, and submissions are due by April 22, 2026. For full project details, eligibility requirements, and submission instructions, visit the City of Miami Art in Public Places webpage at miami.gov/aipp.

This Call to Artists represents an important opportunity for artists and artist teams to contribute to a community-centered project that will enrich the lives of Miami's senior residents for years to come.
