LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass today released the following statement following the Department of Justice's announcement that it is sending election monitors to all 50 states, including to Los Angeles County in California:

"Today, on Election Day, the Department of Justice announced it is 'engaging in its largest monitoring effort in history,' sending election monitors to all 50 states and specifically naming Los Angeles. This is a baseless and dangerous attack from the Department of Justice on how states run their own elections and an attempt to intimidate voters into staying home.

"It is also a desperate effort to make Americans doubt our free and fair elections, despite no credible evidence of widespread illegal voting. The Department of Justice is laying the groundwork to dispute the results if they don't get the outcome they want.

"Don't fall for it. Do not be intimidated. Your ballot is your voice, and no one can take it away from you. If you have a ballot, drop it off. If you haven't voted, head to your polling place today."
