MINNESOTA - U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) are calling on the United States Postal Service (USPS) Minnesota-North Dakota District Manager to reopen the Post Office in Glenville, Minnesota. The Glenville Post Office closed after a vehicle struck the building on June 28, 2026. Since then, the Postal Service has not resumed operations or announced a reopening day.
"Minnesotans depend on the Postal Service every day," wrote the Senators. "We urge you and the local postmaster to restore retail postal services to the Glenville community as quickly as possible and communicate clearly with the City of Glenville and postal customers about your timeline and progress in reopening the post office."
The full letter is available here and below.
Dear District Manager Bye: We write to share concerns that we have received from Minnesota constituents regarding the continued closure of the Glenville Post Office at 220 W. Main Street in Glenville, Minnesota. We urge you and the local postmaster to restore retail postal services to the Glenville community as quickly as possible and communicate clearly with the City of Glenville and postal customers about your timeline and progress in reopening the post office.
The Glenville Post Office closed after a vehicle struck the building on June 28, 2026. More than ten weeks later, the Postal Service has not restored operations at this post office location and our constituents have informed me that the Postal Service has not announced a reopening date or communicated a plan to restore retail postal operations to local residents.
Many Glenville residents depend on their local Post Office every day. Local residents rely on PO boxes to retrieve their mail including prescriptions, Social Security benefits, paychecks, and bills. Post office closures make purchasing stamps, shipping packages, and accessing other retail services less accessible, which can especially impact small business operations that rely on the Postal Service to reach their customers. These postal customers must instead travel to a neighboring community's post office, which is particularly burdensome for seniors and customers that lack transportation.
Please provide the following information:
What steps is the Postal Service taking to reopen the Glenville Post Office?
What is the expected timeline for restoring post office retail operations in Glenville?
How will the Postal Service ensure clear and frequent communication with Glenville postal customers and City of Glenville officials about the post office's closure and all efforts to reopen the post office going forward?
Minnesotans depend on the Postal Service every day. We urge you to work with the local postmaster to promptly reopen the Glenville Post Office as soon as possible and keep residents and city officials informed throughout the process.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
