Master planning for Shores Park continued Sept. 8 as the City Council voted unanimously to reaffirm guiding principles and preferred park amenities to improve the City-owned property at 9th Street and Stratford Court.
The Council's action included establishing a new Shores Park Master Plan Ad-hoc Advisory Committee to advise staff and Councilmembers on completion of the master plan for the property. The Council named Deputy Mayor Tracy Martinez and Councilmember John Spelich to serve as liaisons to the committee.

During their deliberations, Councilmembers directed staff to evaluate whether an off-leash dog area should be separate or share a recreational turf area during limited hours.
The advisory committee, consultant and staff should also examine the possibility of locating the Alvarado House on the property, Councilmembers agreed.

In 2008, the City purchased the 5.3-acre property from Del Mar Union School District with the intent of preserving open space and recreational uses while supporting the continued operation of the Winston School.
