EU sees record number of tourism nights in 2024

In 2024, the estimated number of nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments in the EU reached 2.99 billion, exceeding the previous year by 53.4 million, or 2%.

The growth in tourism nights was mainly driven by an increase in nights spent by international guests (+58.7 million), while the nights spent by domestic guests recorded a modest decrease (-5.3 million). In 2024, the EU tourism nights were fairly balanced between international (48%) and domestic guests (52%).

This information comes from early estimates on tourism published by Eurostat today. The article presents a handful of findings from the more detailed Statistics Explained article on nights spent at tourist accommodation establishments.
