The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced an informational Town Hall meeting for the Queens Bus Network Redesign will be held virtually on Wednesday, Jan. 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The virtual public meeting is aimed at further promoting public awareness around the project and will be hosted as a Zoom webinar. Registration is not required and anyone with the Zoom link is able to join. MTA officials will answer frequently asked questions about the revisions in the Proposed Final Plan Addendum, released on Dec. 17, 2024, and about the redesign in general. Members of the public can submit their question(s) via the Bus Network Redesign Comment Portal by 5:00 p.m. on Jan. 21.
"The Town Hall meeting is a perfect opportunity for Queens bus customers to learn about the latest updates to the redesign and how it will improve their commutes," said NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow. "Nearly 800,000 daily Queens riders rely on bus service to get where they need to go, and updating the bus network is an integral piece in modernizing the transit system as a whole with more reliable service, faster travel, better connections, and ease of use."
"Now that most of the heavy lifting in developing a new bus network for Queens riders is complete, it is important that Queens residents are informed of the changes and take the opportunity to ask questions," said NYC Transit Senior Vice President of Buses Frank Annicaro. "The new network will implement changes that better reflect modern travel patterns while increasing bus speeds and cutting wait times."
The informational Town Hall will kick off with a presentation, outlining the revisions published in the Addendum, and then a panel will answer questions about the plan that were received from the riding public and other stakeholders as part of the iterative planning process. The MTA Board is expected to vote on the plan this winter and if approved, the Authority will launch a large-scale marketing and public education campaign to inform riders of the upcoming changes. The new bus network would be implemented in two phases.
