GREENSBORO, NC (March 19, 2026) - One person has died after a traffic crash on Wednesday on Interstate 40.
On March 18, around 12:09 p.m., Greensboro Police, Greensboro Fire, and Guilford County EMS responded to Exit 208 of Interstate 40 West in reference to a traffic crash with serious injuries.
Investigators determined that a Honda CRV was traveling the wrong way off the ramp of Interstate 40 from Sandy Ridge Road at a high rate of speed when it collided with two other vehicles. The collision caused two of the vehicles to catch on fire, which Greensboro Fire extinguished the flames. The driver of the CRV was pronounced dead at the scene, and the two other drivers were transported to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the CRV has not been identified at this time.
The Greensboro Police Department's Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating.
