WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Erin Houchin (IN-09) announced today that four Community Project Funding requests totaling over $3,000,000 for Indiana's Ninth District have advanced through the full House Appropriations Committee after previously passing the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Subcommittee.
The projects would provide critical investments to improve wastewater systems, expand sewer access, and modernize stormwater infrastructure in communities across southern Indiana.
"Reliable infrastructure is essential to keeping our communities strong and supporting future growth," said Rep. Houchin. "These projects address important local priorities, from upgrading aging wastewater systems to expanding sewer capacity and improving stormwater management. I'm proud to fight for these investments to come back to the 9th District and will keep advocating for them through the appropriations process."
The projects include:
-
$1,000,000 for Town of Borden Wastewater Project. This funding will support critical upgrades to Borden's wastewater system, including installing new sewer lines to expand service to the Starlight area, addressing inflow and infiltration issues, replacing an outdated UV disinfection system that has been out of service for five years, and repairing pump stations that have experienced significant corrosion and structural deterioration.
-
$1,000,000 for Town of Greenville Sewer Expansion. This funding will expand sewer service in Greenville, connecting residents who currently rely on aging septic systems to the municipal system and positioning the town for future growth. The existing wastewater treatment plant is currently operating at 60% capacity, with the ability to expand further in future phases as the community grows.
-
$562,500 for Switzerland County's Moorefield Wastewater System Upgrade. This funding will replace the shared wastewater treatment and disposal system serving the Moorefield community, protecting public health, preserving sewer service for current residents, and positioning the area for future growth.
-
$540,000 for Town of Austin US 31 36-inch Stormwater Pipe Replacement. This funding will replace approximately 3,200 linear feet of aging stormwater pipe along US 31 in Austin, Indiana. The pipe, which drains stormwater from Manaugh Park Lake and surrounding areas, has reached the end of its useful life and has failed at multiple points in recent years, requiring costly emergency repairs.
The projects must still pass the full House of Representatives, the United States Senate, and be signed into law before funding is finalized. In FY2026, Congresswoman Houchin secured over $15 million in Community Project Funding for nine projects across IN-09.
