Larson Commends Court Order Requiring Trump to Release Funds for SNAP

East Hartford, CT - Today, Rep. John B. Larson (CT-01) released the following statement after a federal judge ordered the Trump Administration to fully fund SNAP benefitsfor November. Today's decision comes in response to President Trump's defiance of previous court orders requiring him to keep food assistance flowing.

"I am glad to see the courts step in once again to order Donald Trump to keep families fed," said Larson. "More than 40 million Americans rely on their SNAP benefits to put food on the table. It is beyond cruel for this President to deny them aid that was already approved by Congress, at the very same time that he is building a $300 million ballroom and sending billions to bail out his buddies in Argentina. This is not a game. People's lives are on the line. Our children, the disabled, the elderly, and veterans can't wait around while this administration figures out how to defy yet another court order. Donald Trump needs to fully pay out SNAP benefits now, just as the law requires. In the wealthiest country in the world, it is straight-up shameful for a billionaire president to let people go hungry. Stop feeding your ego, Donald, and get back to feeding the people you are sworn to serve."

Larson applauded court decisionslast week that ordered the Administration to use the contingency funds after they indicated a refusal to pay benefits. Larson and the entire Connecticut delegation had previously demanded the immediate releaseof contingency funds to keep food assistance flowing, as required by law, and joined Attorney General William Tong to announce a multi-state lawsuitchallenging the Trump Administration's illegal threats to shut down SNAP.
