Spring is in the air, and the City of Reno invites the public to its annual rose pruning demonstration! The class takes place on Saturday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Reno Municipal Rose Garden located at Idlewild Park, east of the California Building.
The City's Horticulturist, Ryan Sharrer, will be teaching attendees how to prune different types of roses, as well as give additional tips on springtime gardening. This event is free and open to the public.
"We're lucky to live in an area where many rose types thrive, and it's important for residents to learn the basics when taking care of their flowers," said Sharrer. "This is a great opportunity for attendees to learn about proper rose pruning tools and techniques to help keep their plants beautiful for years to come."
The City is seeking volunteers for the 2026 spring and summer seasons to assist with pruning and maintaining more than 1,000 rose bushes at the Reno Municipal Rose Garden. Current volunteer hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers who complete the credentialing process and receive an official badge may also choose to work on a more flexible schedule.
