The Emerald Coast Utilities Authority (ECUA) announces that Executive Director Bruce Woody has shared his intention to retire on or about July 6, 2026, concluding an impressive 42-year career in public service, including six years of dedicated leadership at ECUA.
"There is a time in every employee's career to retire, and now is my time," said Woody.
Mr. Woody indicated that his final day in the office will be no earlier than the May 26, 2026 Board meeting, allowing time to complete Fiscal Year 2027 budget presentations and assist with a smooth leadership transition.
During his tenure, ECUA completed significant infrastructure improvements, strengthened its financial position, and expanded programs focused on delivering reliable, affordable services to customers across the region.
"I'm very grateful this Board has trusted me with the position of Executive Director six years ago," Woody said. "The ECUA staff is the most professional and dedicated of any I've worked with in my 42-year career."
"It's been very refreshing to work with an elected Board, who stays focused on the policy and finances of the organization and only uses politics to build coalitions, to partner with other public jurisdictions, to create financial efficiencies and to look out for the interest of our customers," he added.
Board members expressed their appreciation for Mr. Woody's steady leadership, integrity, and commitment to the community, recognizing his lasting impact on the organization and the customers it serves.
