Congressman Bell Leads Resolution Recognizing the Missouri Tigers as the 1960 College Football National Champions

The 1960 Missouri Tigers football team had an undefeated season, besting Kansas in the Big Eight Conference

Minnesota was ultimately chosen as the 1960 National Champion due to polling organization rankings, but Missouri holds a claim to the title

Washington, D.C. - Recently, Congressman Wesley Bell (D-MO-01) led a resolution recognizing the 1960 University of Missouri Tigers football team for its undefeated regular season, Orange Bowl victory, and claim to the 1960 National Championship.

"As a proud Mizzou graduate, I'm always going to champion my school," said Rep. Bell. "As we head into another football season, I want to recognize the legacy of our 1960 football team and rightfully place them in history as national champions. These men represented the heart of Missouri. They worked tirelessly to earn their championship and record, and they deserve to be recognized for it. I'm proud to introduce this resolution to recognize the 1960 national champion Mizzou Tigers.

In 1960, there was no official National Championship game. Instead, major polling organizations and selectors named teams as national champions.

Missouri University's 1960 team, coached by Dan Devine, finished its season 11-0 after a Kansas win in the Big Eight was reversed due to their use of an ineligible player. However, despite their record, Minnesota was ultimately recognized as the 1960 national champion.

This resolution offers the chance to rewrite history and renew the Missouri Tigers' claim to the title.
