San Diego Bishop Michael Pham presided over the University of San Diego's annual Mass of the Holy Spirit on Thursday, Sept. 11. The fall tradition marks the beginning of a new academic year, and serves as an opportunity to bring together faculty, staff and students to ask for the Spirit's guidance for the year ahead.

Pham was appointed the next bishop of San Diego in May. He was the first appointment for Pope Leo XIV and succeeds Cardinal Robert W. McElroy, who in January was appointed by the late Pope Francis to lead the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C.

Along with the All Faith Service each spring, the Mass of the Holy Spirit is one of the few occasions when our entire campus community comes together at the same time and place. In support of this important tradition.
