FAFSA Opens October 1: What You Need to Know for 2026–27

The 2026-27 FAFSA opens October 1, two months earlier than last year! Submitting your FAFSA early not only makes the rest of your college application process smoother, but it can also give you a better shot at certain grants and scholarships.

Finishing this step early helps your school process your aid, resolve any roadblocks, and gives you peace of mind knowing one of the most complex tasks is done.

Plus, knowing that you have completed one of the most complex tasks will make the rest of your college admissions process less stressful -so don't wait to get started!

Tips for Completing the FAFSA

  • Don't assume ineligibility. File the FAFSA regardless of your family's income. It is required for many forms of aid, including federal student loans, institutional scholarships, and state-based grants.
  • Work with your parents. You'll need their 2024 tax return information (as well as your own).
  • Use the correct name. Be sure the name matches your Social Security card and your college applications so there are no discrepancies.
  • Check your info carefully. Double-check your Social Security number and birthdate.
  • Include your high school information. Don't skip that section.
  • List all colleges. Add every school you're considering. Concordia's FAFSA code is: 003557

Documents You'll Need

  • Social Security card
  • Driver's license
  • Parent's 2024 tax return (for the 26-27 aid year)
  • Your 2024 tax return (if applicable)

After You Submit

Once submitted, your FAFSA is processed by the U.S. Department of Education and sent to the colleges you listed. Each school then uses it to determine your aid package.

Your college may request additional documents to finalize your aid-so stay in close contact with your admissions counselor and financial aid office. Aid is typically disbursed within the first two weeks of classes.
