Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Theoharis, in the context of his visit to the United States, paid a two-day visit to Washington, where he held a series of important meetings with officials of the US Administration and representatives of the business community.
On the first day of his visit, the Deputy Minister met with the team of Steve Witkoff for the reconstruction of Gaza, with executives of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) regarding the attraction of American investments to Greece, with the Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs responsible for Economic Growth and Energy, Jacob Helberg, to discuss issues of energy security and technological cooperation, as well as with the Assistant Secretary of Commerce, David Fogel.
This was followed by contacts with Excelerate Energy concerning LNG infrastructure, a discussion at Bloomberg on the Greek economy, and a meeting at the White House with the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, Michael Kratsios, focusing on innovation and emerging technologies.
On the final day of his visit to the United States, Mr. Theoharis met with the newly appointed Deputy United States Trade Representative for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Jeffrey Goettman, to whom he presented Greece's request for the exemption of emblematic Greek products from the regime of additional tariffs. At the same time, he highlighted new productive investments being implemented by Greek industries in the United States, seeking the support of the US Administration.
Subsequently, Mr. Theoharis met with the President of the EXIM Bank, John Jovanovic, with whom he discussed the framework for cooperation between the US institution and Export Credit Greece (ECG). This cooperation is expected to be further specified in the near future through the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding.
In the course of the visit, Mr. Theoharis held a meeting with executives of the energy company ConocoPhillips, during which the prospect of expanding the company's international presence to Greece was examined. Finally, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs visited the production facility of THEON company in Virginia, which manufactures state-of-the-art equipment for the United States Armed Forces.
These contacts confirmed Greece's enhanced role in the fields of energy, innovation and international investment, as well as the steady upgrading of Greek-American relations.
