Munich, Sept. 10, 2025 - Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com, Inc. company (NASDAQ: AMZN), Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., and Sony Honda Mobility (SHM) today announced new advancements in the development speed of SHM's upcoming electric vehicle AFEELA, a next-generation smart vehicle that blends AI-powered autonomous capabilities with intelligent entertainment systems. Through collaborative efforts, the companies are accelerating SHM's ADAS development capabilities, harnessing AWS's cloud infrastructure and Qualcomm AI100 accelerators to propel AFEELA from concept to consumer-ready vehicle for its 2026 debut.
"Through this collaboration and AWS's cloud capabilities, we're helping transform vehicles into hyper-connected mobility hubs that personalize the driving experience in ways that will help improve both safety and entertainment," said Hiroki Takakura, General Manager of Network Service Development Division, Sony Honda Mobility Inc. "By using Qualcomm accelerators on AWS, we're shrinking our development timelines-turning months of simulation work into mere weeks and processing unprecedented volumes of drive data."
Equipped with an integrated network of 360-degree sensors and smart AI-powered systems like advanced driving support, the AFEELA delivers next-level transportation-its smart technology perceives and responds to changing road conditions, delivering autonomous driving features that combine innovation with practical functionality. The advanced AI, supported by AWS, combines camera and sensor data to help support driving assistance capabilities, with the goal of helping the car see, predict, and plan its movements on the road. This intelligent system being designed by SHM will help drivers find the best routes and make parking easier.
"Our work with SHM and Qualcomm is changing the game for how cars are developed and experienced," said Ozgur Tohumcu, General Manager of Automotive and Manufacturing at AWS. "Together, we're helping create a more seamless connection between cloud technology and the AI-powered features that help enhance the driving experience for customers, helping enable SHM to bring exciting innovations to customers faster than ever before."
The three companies have created a cloud-based infrastructure and toolchain that helps SHM better generate, process, and analyze its data simulations, which helps dramatically accelerate SHM's ADAS development. This system assists SHM's handling of vast increases in data processing, enhancing the development of automated driving features-including adaptive cruise control, parking assist, and piloted driving-which will run on Snapdragon Ride SoCs in production AFEELA vehicles.
"Our work with AWS and SHM represents a fundamental shift in automotive innovation-where silicon expertise meets cloud scale to help create more extraordinary experiences for drivers," said Anshuman Saxena, VP, Product Management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. "By bringing Qualcomm's edge AI capabilities into AWS's cloud environment, we're helping enable SHM's development, compressing years of traditional progress into months while helping raise the bar for what consumers can expect from their vehicles."
The use of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) DL2q instances powered by Qualcomm AI100 accelerators alongside the Snapdragon Ride platform helps SHM turbocharge the AFEELA's development. These processing advancements help deliver faster validation, substantial cost savings, and superior testing across a wider range of scenarios and conditions than could be replicated in the physical world. The result is more than just a faster development cycle though; it's a fundamental reimagining of what vehicles can become when they harness the potential of cloud computing and AI.
