NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (March 15, 2026) - Mayor Jim Cahill officially welcomed a delegation from the Senegal national football team to New Brunswick last week as the squad finalized plans to use the city as its primary base camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The team, currently ranked 12th in the world, will reside at The Heldrich Hotel & Conference Center during the tournament.
The "Lions of Teranga" will use the world-class athletic facilities at Rutgers University for their daily training sessions. This local residency serves as the team's home base during the run-up to their World Cup opener against France on June 16.
