DMV’s Capitola Office Temporarily Closing for Renovation

What you need to know: The Capitola office will temporarily close for renovation on June 13. However, most customers do not have to visit an office and can do their DMV business at dmv.ca.gov.

Sacramento - The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today announced that the Capitola office at 4200 Capitola Road will be temporarily closing for painting and the replacement of its floor and furniture beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, June 13. The office is scheduled to reopen at 8 a.m. Monday, August 25.

Until the renovation is complete, customers can visit the following area offices:

• Watsonville: 90 Alta Vista Ave. (14 miles from the Capitola office)
• Los Gatos: 600 N. Santa Cruz Ave. (25 miles from the Capitola office)
• Salinas: 260 E. Laurel Drive (35 miles from the Capitola office)
• Seaside: 1180 Canyon Del Rey Blvd. (37 miles from the Capitola office)

Before Going to an Office - Try Online First

The DMV has taken many steps to offer additional digital services. Most DMV tasks do not require an office visit, including simple self-service transactions that are no longer available in offices. The DMV encourages customers to use its online services and other service channels to complete transactions, including eligible driver's license and vehicle registration renewals. Customers can also use the Service Advisor on the DMV website to learn their options to complete DMV tasks.

To sign up for paperless vehicle registration and driver's license renewal notices, customers must opt in by creating a secure online account and registering at dmv.ca.gov.
