UK-based embedded payments provider Modulr has partnered with Florida-headquartered Cogent Bank as it ramps up its US expansion.

Founded in 2015, Modulr consolidates and automates payment and reconciliation workflows for more than 6,000 businesses, processing over 200 million transactions and over £180 billion in payment value on an annualised basis.

Having initially focused on the UK and European markets, in January, the paytech debuted in the US through a partnership with FIS. At the time, Modulr stated it would provide the financial technology company with "critical technology" for FIS' Money Movement Hub.

Partnering with Cogent Bank, Modulr will provide the bank's customers with access to "multiple payment rails through a single streamlined platform tailored to their payments needs", according to a company statement.

Modulr continues that its new and existing customers can "open US accounts and make same-day and standard payouts through an integrated platform, with routing automatically optimised for cost and speed".

Reflecting on Modulr's US expansion, Myles Stephenson, founder and CEO of Modulr, says: "Working with Cogent gives us nationwide reach from day one, with infrastructure built by our payments experts and supported in the US through our strategic partnership with FIS."

Modulr also recently featured in the news when the UK's Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) announced that the paytech had been admitted to the regulator's scale-up unit, where it will benefit from tailored regulatory support when developing new products, responding to policy changes, and managing growth.
