The Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS), strongly supported and now chaired by the EU, outlines the effects of the current Gulf crisis on agri-food markets

The Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) Rapid Response Forum took place in Rome on 25 March 2026, at a moment of high uncertainty for agri-food commodity markets and global food security. Amid rising market uncertainties driven by geopolitical tensions, disruptions to energy and fertiliser supplies, and pressures on key transport routes such as the Strait of Hormuz, the role of AMIS in providing timely data remains highly relevant. By monitoring and reporting data on key commodities such as wheat, maize, rice and soybeans, as well as fertilisers and vegetable oils, AMIS provides vital information for co-ordinated policy responses and decision-making, towards more stability in global food markets.

The EU remains one of the key supporters of AMIS and is proud to be the largest single contributor to the system, providing USD 1.3 million for 2025-2030. Ms Catherine Geslain-Laneelle, from the European Commission's Directorate General of Agriculture will contribute her extensive experience in agricultural policy and international coordination as the newly appointed AMIS Chair.
