At an event in Batumi commemorating the International Day of the Seafarer, the President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, awarded the Medal of Honour, a state decoration of Georgia, to individuals in recognition of their distinguished service and outstanding contributions to the development of the Georgian state. Among those awarded the Medal of Honor were Nikoloz Ovcharenko, Inspector of the Batumi Port State Supervision and Control Service of the Maritime Transport Agency; Lali Khvedelidze, Chancellor and Head of Administration of Batumi Navigation Teaching University; Mikheil Bajelidze, First Rank Captain and Assistant to the Rector of Batumi State Maritime Academy; and Paata Tabaghua, a maritime documentary filmmaker.
As part of today's official ceremony, a swearing-in ceremony was held for young seafarers, after which the President addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of maritime transport, Georgia's role as a trade and transit hub, and the professionalism of Georgian seafarers.
Alongside the President, the event was attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia, the Chairman of the Government of the Autonomous Republic of Achara, and representatives of the central and local authorities.
