Lithuania protests to Russia over strikes on Ukraine's energy facilities

On 11 November, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania summoned the Chargé d'Affaires of the Russian Federation and handed a diplomatic note, expressing protest over the targeting of Ukraine's energy infrastructure by the Russian forces.

The Ministry emphasizes that the deliberate destruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure after the onset of the cold season deepens the humanitarian crisis in the country, and the strikes of 9 November on the Khmelnytskyi and Rivne nuclear power plants are blatant acts of nuclear blackmail, increasing the likelihood of an ecological catastrophe that could affect the entire continent.

Lithuania reiterates that Russia's attacks on Ukrainian civilians and civilian infrastructure constitute a gross violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and affirms its determination to seek accountability for Russian officials involved in planning and carrying out these attacks.
