Klunk Named Republican Chair of House Children and Youth Committee

Jan. 08, 2025

HARRISBURG - State Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) today announced she has been chosen to serve as the Republican chair of the House Children and Youth Committee for the 2025-26 Legislative Session. Klunk has previously served as a member of the committee and is energized to take on a leadership role to advocate fiercely for Pennsylvania's children.

"It is an honor to be appointed the Republican chair of the House Children and Youth Committee," Klunk said. "Having served on this committee at the beginning of my time in the Legislature, I have seen firsthand how it is a force for good. From leading efforts in juvenile justice to adoption and family law, we are ensuring the Commonwealth's most vulnerable residents are protected from abuse and can look toward a bright future.

"One of my top priorities in this role is to elevate the voices of children themselves. We have so much to learn from our youngest constituents, who can often be overlooked or undermined. It's my goal to bring conversations with kids to the forefront of the committee, so we can understand their unique perspective on issues that affect them.

"As a mother to two girls, I understand how important and precious children are, not just to our families and those who love them, but to Pennsylvania itself. Our children are our future, and we must do everything to protect that. I am energized to work with my colleagues across the aisle in both chambers to make lasting, positive change on issues critical to the well-being of our kids," Klunk concluded.

The House Children and Youth Committee oversees issues pertaining to Pennsylvania's children. The committee plays a key role in shaping legislation related to maternal health, day care facilities, child pornography, juvenile justice and working to prevent harm and abuse. The committee will hold hearings on issues like these across the Commonwealth, addressing the challenges faced by children and families, as well as those in need of state services and support.
