Senator Moody Secures Massive $1.5 BILLION in FEMA Disaster Recovery Funding for Florida

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Senator Ashley Moody announced her successful effort to secure more than $1.5 billion in FEMA relief to be distributed throughout Florida. These funds will be used as federal aid for disasters spanning the past several years:

"I came to Washington to fight for Florida's best interest, which is why I'm proud to announce the successful recovery of more than $1.5 Billion in FEMA reimbursements for Florida communities hit hard by disasters. This is money that has been slow-walked and tangled in our federal government - I'm cutting through bureaucracy and getting things done for Florida," said Senator Ashley Moody.

"Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump, FEMA is committed to cutting red tape and getting resources directly to the American people and communities who need them most. Senator Moody has been a great partner in our efforts to slash bureaucracy, strengthen accountability, and ensure rapid, effective recovery for Floridians. I want to thank her for fighting alongside us to get this disaster recovery funding across the finish line," said Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin.

BACKGROUND:

  • The grand total reimbursed by FEMA currently stands at $1,563,897,520.
  • During his tenure as the Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin has worked closely with Senator Moody to reimburse 397 FEMA projects thus far, providing the State of Florida with over $847 million in federal assistance. These funds have directly supported Floridians recover from disasters
  • These new grants will be distributed along with the previously announced funds through FEMA's Public Assistance and Hazard Mitigation Assistance programs to support more than 500 recovery projects across the state. This money is disbursed to the state and local communities for disaster recovery projects.
  • These projects include repairs to educational facilities, restoration of critical infrastructure, debris removal, and costs incurred during emergencies to protect life and property.
  • Reimbursed projects include but are not limited to:
    • $17.2 million for Sarasota countywide contracted debris removal;
    • $6.6 million for Tallahassee citywide debris removal;
    • $167,955 for Seminole County roads and stormwater projects;
    • $617,987 for Madeira Beach parking lot repairs;
    • $617,068 for Lynn Haven Waste Water Plant repairs;
    • $721,822 for Columbia County power restoration;
    • $2.2 million for Dunedin marina seawall projects;
    • $4.1 million for Brevard County dune engineering; and
    • $4.1 million for Clearwater beach walkways and seawall projects.
