Residents Invited to Attend Affordable Housing Community Input and Information Sessions

FREDERICK, Md. - Residents are invited to join upcoming public sessions to learn about and provide input on affordable housing initiatives in Frederick County. Hosted by the Frederick County Division of Housing, these sessions will be an opportunity for members of the community to learn about and share priorities for Frederick County's Housing Needs Assessment and Strategic Plan.

"As we embark upon this community conversation regarding how all households in Frederick County can have access to safe, affordable housing, it is critical that we hear directly from our residents about their affordability challenges," County Executive Jessica Fitzwater said. "I hope that residents will attend a meeting to learn more about the lack of affordable housing in Frederick County, as well as how we can come together to address an issue that affects our economic viability, the well-being of our children, and so many other shared community values."

In September 2024, Frederick County announced a partnership with consulting firm Thomas P. Miller and Associates (TPMA) to develop a Housing Needs Assessment and Strategic Plan. This initiative, which will set the strategic direction for affordable housing policy in Frederick County, aligns with County Executive Fitzwater's community-based Transition Team's recommendation to update the 2016 Affordable Housing Needs Assessment and develop a strategic plan for housing.

Efforts to complete this project are underway and the upcoming public meetings mark the first step in developing a collaborative vision for the County's future. There will be two initial opportunities for residents to participate:

  • Wednesday, January 22from 6 to 7:30 p.m. - Urbana Regional Library, Anthony M. Natelli Community Room, 9020 Amelung Street, Frederick, MD 21704
  • Thursday, January 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. - Frederick County Prospect Center, Conference Room G, 585 Himes Avenue, Frederick, MD 21703 (will be livestreamed on FCG TV)

Each session will provide residents with vital information about the strategic planning process, including current challenges, opportunities, and preliminary goals for the next decade. The content of each meeting will be the same, so members of the public need only attend one meeting to be informed and offer comments. Doors for the meetings will open 15 minutes before the start time. Residents will be asked to complete a virtual survey at the end of each meeting.

Registration is encouraged but not mandatory. To register, or to learn more about this initiative, visit www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/HousingStrategicPlan.
