Council to consider park, recreation center rehabilitation and other projects and programs that benefit the community

The City Council on Tuesday, August 25 will consider approving plans for park and recreation center rehabilitation projects as well as a proposed program that fosters community connections.

The business portion of the meeting starts at 6 pm in the Council Chamber at 200 Civic Center.

Council Members will consider plans for a Barbadanes Park Play Area Rehabilitation project. The new play area improvements would include an array of play elements and seating opportunities, while the overall park would provide improved ADA access and sidewalk circulation.

Plans and specifications will also be considered by the Council for a Sierra Recreation Center Tennis Court Rehabilitation project. The existing courts at the center need rehabilitation due to the age and condition of the existing court surface and concrete pad. The project would replace the concrete court pad to provide the best long-term approach for improving the condition, functionality, and usability of the court area.

As part of the fiscal year 2025-26 budget review, the City Council approved funding for the Marguerite Aquatics, Tennis and Recreation Center Surface Parking Lot Expansion efforts and will now consider approving plans and specifications. The proposed parking lot expansion will address immediate parking needs and help reduce on-street parking during special events at the Marguerite Aquatics, Tennis, and Recreation Center as well as the Oso Creek Golf Course.

In other news, the Council will consider approving a new Block Party Program for the City. Block parties are a traditional way for neighbors to come together and socialize. They are beneficial in promoting good will, cooperation, awareness, and safety. Developed by the Community Services Commission, the proposed program is designed to foster community connections, increasing social interactions, enhancing public safety, and providing family-friendly activities.

City Council meetings are streamed live on the City's website and air on Cox Channel 30 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Residents are encouraged to sign up for the City's eNewsletter and follow the City's official social media sites for the most accurate, up-to-date information.
