Program to discuss leveraging the bioenergy potential of manure

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Jan. 14 Environmental Professionals Network (EPN) breakfast program will offer strategies to limit the release of methane into the atmosphere.

The EPN - a service of The School of Environment and Natural Resources at The Ohio State University College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences - is kicking off its 2025 breakfast program series with "Moo-ving Methane: Converting Ohio's dairy farm manure into an energy source." The event willaddress the need for innovative solutions that can mitigate the impact of methane dairy farming on our climate.

"The breakfast panel will feature speakers from all sides of Ohio's climate-smart agricultural network, including farmers, energy providers, and researchers," said Harrison Fried, EPN program director.

Developed in partnership with Ohio State's Sustainability Institute, the program will feature methane-capturing technologies implemented by Dublin, Ohio, energy supplier IGS Energy on several Ohio dairy farms.

"This event will showcase the importance of multisector teams to develop innovative solutions for our climate," Fried said. "IGS Energy's dairy farm methane-capturing projects are excellent examples of building trustful relationships across sectors, which is fundamental to ensuring win-win solutions for multiple stakeholders and the environment."

Program attendees will learn of the value of biogas projects and how the technologies are contributing to energy supply diversification and climate change mitigation. Program attendees will also hear about scalability and prospects for climate-smart agricultural practices that provide win-wins for agriculture and our environment.
